Tiandi (2024) brings Huang Yulong’s contemporary hooded figure into dialogue with the visual tradition of Chinese blue-and-white porcelain.

Standing with one arm raised, the anonymous figure is covered in intricate cobalt-blue motifs that extend across its clothing, transforming the familiar language of streetwear into a richly decorated porcelain surface. The empty face beneath the hood, a recurring element in Huang’s work, contrasts with the density of the surrounding ornament.

By combining the aesthetics of contemporary urban culture with porcelain, a material deeply rooted in Chinese artistic tradition, Huang Yulong creates a meeting point between different generations, histories and visual languages.
