Pyramid Drop (2024) captures a street dancer at the lowest point of a breaking movement, with the body folded forward and both hands reaching toward the ground.

The compact pose concentrates the figure’s weight and energy close to the floor. Cast in stainless steel, the sculpture gives permanence to a movement that would otherwise exist for only an instant, while the reflective surface brings out the folds and tension of the dancer’s clothing.

Part of Huang Yulong’s exploration of hip-hop and street dance culture, Pyramid Drop focuses on the physical vocabulary of breaking: balance, control, rhythm and the relationship between the body and the ground.

Produced in an edition of 99, the work is hand-signed by the artist.
