Fresh Reach (2024) captures a street dancer in a low, dynamic breaking pose, with one hand touching the ground as the body stretches outward in a moment of controlled movement.

The folds of the dancer’s oversized clothing are precisely modelled in stainless steel, emphasizing the tension and momentum of the pose. Its reflective surface interacts with light and the surrounding space, adding another layer of movement to the sculpture.

Drawing from hip-hop culture and the physical vocabulary of street dance, Huang Yulong transforms an ephemeral gesture into a permanent sculptural form. Fresh Reach focuses on balance, energy and bodily expression while retaining the anonymous hooded figure characteristic of the artist’s practice.

Produced in an edition of 99, the work is hand-signed by the artist.
