Reappropriation 13 (2022) is a unique work by French artist Kurar, combining a monochrome urban landscape with selective areas of vivid colour.

A row of traditional waterfront buildings stretches across the composition beneath an expansive grey sky. While much of the scene is rendered in black, white and shades of grey, individual façades emerge in green, yellow, red and blue, their colours reflected in the water below.

This contrast between a subdued environment and brightly coloured architecture reflects Kurar’s recurring exploration of contemporary society and the transformation of urban space. By isolating colour within an otherwise monochromatic landscape, the artist shifts attention toward the identity and visual memory of the city.
