Modernity vs Tradition 2 (2021) is a unique work by French artist Kurar, exploring the tension between urban development, globalization and cultural identity.

The composition depicts a monumental architectural structure assembled from stacked buildings and shipping containers. Mostly rendered in black and white, the scene is punctuated by vivid bands of green, red, yellow and blue, drawing attention to the industrial elements embedded within the cityscape.

Through this collision of architecture, infrastructure and colour, Kurar confronts two seemingly opposing forces: the persistence of local traditions and the rapid transformation brought about by contemporary urban life. The small human figures at the base of the composition reinforce the imposing scale of the constructed environment.
