Girl With Balloon is one of Banksy’s most recognisable images, depicting a young girl reaching towards a red heart-shaped balloon drifting away from her.

Reduced to a black silhouette and a single field of red, the composition reflects the direct visual language that has become central to Banksy’s practice. The image has been associated with themes of hope, loss and the fragility of desire, while its deliberately simple composition allows these interpretations to remain open.

First appearing as a stencil in London in the early 2000s, Girl With Balloon later became one of the artist’s defining images. This two-color silkscreen print dates from 2004 and was produced in an edition of 600.
