Venus à Cordes (2001) brings together two recurring elements in Arman’s work: the human figure and the musical instrument.

The sculpture combines the classical silhouette of the Venus with the fragmented forms of string instruments, creating a dense interplay of bodies, curves and vertical lines. By merging these familiar forms, Arman transforms objects associated with Western artistic and musical traditions into a new sculptural composition.

Executed in lacquered steel, Venus à Cordes reflects the artist’s long-standing fascination with accumulation, fragmentation and the transformation of everyday objects.

Produced in an edition of 80, the work demonstrates how Arman continued to reinvent his vocabulary of objects through sculpture.
