Danse du Feu (1997) transforms the violin, one of Arman’s most emblematic subjects, through fragmentation, fire and preservation.

The instrument appears divided between a dark, charred surface and a vivid orange section, creating a striking contrast between destruction and material transformation. Embedded in resin, the violin is preserved as both a recognizable object and the trace of an artistic action.

Throughout his career, Arman repeatedly dismantled, burned and recomposed musical instruments, challenging their original function while exploring the expressive potential of destruction and accumulation.

Produced in an edition of 8, Danse du Feu condenses these ideas into an intimate sculptural work in which the violin remains immediately recognizable despite its transformation.
