The Kiss (2016) is a unique work by Herr Nilsson, bringing together two instantly recognizable figures from very different cultural worlds: Snow White and Queen Elizabeth II.

The two figures meet in an unexpected kiss, framed by a heart-shaped arrangement of roses. By appropriating imagery associated with fairy tales, royalty and popular culture, Herr Nilsson creates a deliberately playful collision between fiction and reality.

The sweetness of the composition is offset by the work’s irreverent juxtaposition, characteristic of the artist’s practice, in which familiar cultural icons are removed from their original contexts and placed into surprising new narratives.
