Spin Painting – Circle (2009) is a unique work by Damien Hirst, created through the centrifugal process that defines his celebrated Spin Paintings.
Acrylic and metallic paint explode outward from the centre of the circular composition, forming energetic layers of red, orange, blue, black and white. The rotational process creates a balance between deliberate artistic intervention and chance, as the movement of the surface determines the final distribution of colour.
Hirst began experimenting with spin paintings in the early 1990s, using mechanical rotation to challenge conventional ideas of composition and artistic control. In this work, the circular format intensifies the centrifugal movement, allowing colour and gesture to radiate directly from the centre.
Created in 2009, this unique work is hand-signed by the artist.
