Hiding in the City No. 3 – Suo Jia Village (2005) is an early work from Liu Bolin’s celebrated Hiding in the City series, in which the artist uses his own body as a site of camouflage.

Standing directly in front of a brick wall, Liu Bolin is meticulously painted to merge with the architecture behind him. His figure remains visible only through subtle interruptions in the wall’s surface, creating a tension between presence and disappearance.

The Hiding in the City series emerged in Beijing in 2005 and established the visual language that would become central to Liu Bolin’s practice. Through camouflage, performance and photography, the artist explores the relationship between the individual and the social and physical environments that surround them.

Produced in an edition of 8, this work is face-mounted to Plexiglas using the Diasec process and presented with an aluminium frame.
