Baby King (2024) captures a street dancer in a compact breaking freeze, balancing close to the ground as the body folds into a tightly controlled pose.

The sculpture emphasizes the physical precision of breaking: weight is concentrated through the dancer’s hands while the bent limbs create a dynamic interplay of balance, strength and movement. The folds of the oversized clothing reinforce the sense of motion, contrasting with the solidity and reflective surface of stainless steel.

Through this series, Huang Yulong translates the gestures and attitude of street dance into sculpture, preserving an ephemeral moment of performance as a permanent three-dimensional form. Baby King reflects the artist’s long-standing engagement with hip-hop culture and contemporary urban identity.
