Marilyn Monroe 11.27 – This Is Not by Me occupies an unusual place within the history of Andy Warhol’s Marilyn imagery.

The screenprint belongs to the group of Marilyn impressions published by Sunday B. Morning after Warhol’s celebrated 1967 portfolio. These impressions were produced in different colour combinations and stamped on the reverse by the publisher.

On selected impressions, Warhol responded by signing and inscribing the reverse “This is not by me, Andy Warhol.” The gesture creates a characteristic tension between authorship, reproduction and authenticity, themes that lie at the heart of Warhol’s practice.

Measuring 84.5 × 84.5 cm, this example is hand-signed and inscribed by Andy Warhol on the reverse.
