Yamato Nadeshiko – Haru (2022) is a unique circular work by Japanese stencil artist RoamCouch, combining traditional Japanese imagery with the visual language of contemporary street art.

At the centre of the composition, a woman in traditional dress stands beneath a Japanese umbrella, rendered in RoamCouch’s characteristic detailed stencil technique. Against the deep black background, bursts of colourful graffiti, lettering and paint surround the figure, creating a vivid contrast between the monochrome portrait and its energetic urban setting.

The work reflects RoamCouch’s recurring dialogue between Japanese cultural references and contemporary street culture. Its circular format further concentrates the composition around the central figure, while layers of colour and intricate detail give the image a strong sense of depth.
