Ryo Ogawa, better known as RoamCouch, is a Japanese contemporary artist born in Gifu in 1976. A former designer, he became a full-time artist in 2011 and is best known for his highly detailed stencil works, created using more than fifty layers of hand-cut stencils.

Blending urban imagery, romantic narratives and influences from Japanese visual culture, RoamCouch has developed a distinctive style that has been exhibited internationally. In 2014, he held his first solo exhibition, A Beautiful Life, in New York, where the entire collection sold out.

His practice also includes “Neo Ukiyo-e,” combining stencil techniques with traditional Japanese Mino washi paper to reinterpret the visual language of ukiyo-e through a contemporary perspective.
