MOHAMAD ESKANDARI
ABOUT
Mohamad Eskandari (b. 1982, Tehran) is an Iranian contemporary artist whose practice explores memory, history and the social transformations of contemporary Iranian society. Working primarily through painting, he develops layered visual narratives in which personal experience intersects with collective memory and cultural identity.
Eskandari studied painting at the University of Art in Tehran from 2000 to 2005, later completing research on the influence of the Islamic Revolution on Iranian contemporary painting. Since the early 2000s, his work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Iran, Europe and the United States.
His practice also extends to mural painting and public art. Between 2011 and 2013, he taught mural painting and led workshops at Tehran University of Art. His relationship with Paris began in 2011 through a residency at the Cité internationale des arts, where he returned for further residencies in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
A member of the Iranian Society of Painters since 2006, Eskandari continues to work from his studio while exhibiting internationally. His work has also been featured in publications including Iranian Contemporary Art: From the Street to the Studio by Talinn Grigor and Rethinking Iran’s Contemporary Art, edited by Hamid Keshmirshekan.
