JonOne is an American-born artist whose practice emerged from the graffiti culture of New York. Raised in Harlem, he began tagging at the age of 17 and founded the graffiti collective 156 All Starz in 1984, becoming part of the city’s dynamic street art scene.

After moving to Paris in 1987, JonOne began transferring the energy and visual language of graffiti onto canvas. His paintings are characterized by layers of calligraphic gestures, repeated lettering, vivid colors and expressive movement, creating compositions that sit between graffiti and abstract painting.

Over the course of his career, JonOne has exhibited internationally and developed projects with institutions and brands including the Fondation Cartier, Grand Palais, Air France, Lacoste, Guerlain and Hennessy. His work has played an important role in bringing graffiti-derived practices into the wider contemporary art landscape.

In 2015, JonOne created Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité for the Palais Bourbon, home of the French National Assembly. That same year, he was awarded the French Legion of Honour, marking his contribution to art and culture in France.
