HOM NGUYEN
ABOUT
Hom Nguyen is a French artist of Vietnamese descent, born in Paris in 1972, and entirely self-taught. Working across pencil, charcoal, pastel, ink, and acrylic, he creates large-scale portraits driven by bold, instinctive gestures and a striking expressive intensity.
At the heart of his practice are questions of identity, exile, memory, and cultural heritage. These themes emerge through deeply emotive faces, rooted in his personal history and, above all, in his relationship with his mother, a Vietnamese immigrant who arrived in France in the 1970s. Her story, and everything it carries, runs through his work as a constant, underlying presence.
His portraits often appear blurred or fragmented, suspended in a subtle tension between strength and vulnerability, surface and depth. Widely exhibited in galleries and institutions, his work has been presented in Paris, London, Hong Kong, and Singapore, affirming his place on the contemporary art scene.
