Gully is a French artist born in 1977 whose practice is rooted in appropriation, graffiti culture and art history. After working intensively as a graffiti artist from 1992 to the mid-2000s, he gradually moved toward a studio-based practice while choosing to preserve his anonymity.

His works combine a wide range of techniques and materials, including oil and acrylic paint, markers, aerosol and mixed media on canvas and paper. Appropriation lies at the heart of his practice, allowing him to reinterpret recognizable visual references and bring them into new narrative contexts.

Gully is particularly known for scenes set within elaborate architectural interiors, where children encounter and observe works by major figures from art history. These compositions unfold like silent comic strips, without dialogue, leaving viewers free to imagine the conversations and stories taking place between the characters.

By combining street art, painting and references to the history of art, Gully creates playful yet carefully constructed works that explore how images are seen, remembered and reinterpreted across generations.
