Alben is a French contemporary artist whose paintings and sculptures draw on Pop Art, Street Art and the imagery of popular culture. A self-taught artist, he creates densely layered compositions combining historical figures, comic book characters, advertising imagery and other cultural icons.

Working with painting, stencil and spray techniques, Alben brings together references from different periods and contexts, creating visual collisions between art history and contemporary mass culture.

Sculpture forms another important part of his practice. Influenced by French artist Arman and his use of everyday objects, Alben develops his own approach by assembling familiar consumer materials into reinterpretations of iconic works and symbols. Through these combinations, his work explores the circulation, transformation and collective memory of images in contemporary culture.
